I am an artist living and working in Toronto, Ontario. I have studied art for many years and owe my training to a variety of sources including study at the university level, private workshops with artists and self study.

Although my subject and technique are sometimes varied, my underlying interests remain the same; the exploration of human emotion through sensual representation of colour and texture and the combination of figurative rendering with expressive treatment.

Although I do extensive work in drawing, I regard myself principally as a painter. I use a glazing technique in oils, similar to the early work of Mary Pratt, that allows light to filter through the image. I combine this technique with areas of overt, expressive brush strokes to add variety to the painted surface. The medium of painting complements my artistic approach because I can carefully plan a composition yet be free to add intuitive spontaneous elements as the piece develops. It is this dynamic of freedom and rigidity, intricate detail and loose brushwork, that interest me in a composition.

Underlying technique and intellect is the simple yet inexplicable magic of art making. When I look into what was once a blank ground and see my subject alive, full of complexity and emotion I feel an accomplishment unlike any other. It is hopelessly addictive.
